Raising the Butterfly Net

Last week Susie, Paul, and I had the opportunity to volunteer with the Danville Science Center for the day helping to put up the Butterfly Garden net! We joined a group of volunteers led by Danville Science Center staff including **Keri**, the Center’s Butterfly Gardener.

As you can see from the video below, we had to unfurl the net, patch it up, drape it over the roof, secure it to the frame, and adjust it. Now, it’s ready for the new butterflies to move in on April 16th when the Danville Science Center will release the butterflies at a special event.

I’m a huge fan of butterflies not just because of their beauty but also because they symbolize change and freedom. When I was working at El Tadeo Torres, a home for orphans in Cuenca, Ecuador, the kids there would sometimes call me Mari-Mariposa (butterfly) and that always brought a smile to my face.

Enjoy, Mari(posa)
